Assistant General Counsel - Principal Financial Group
Cory McAnelly is Assistant General Counsel and a registered patent attorney for Principal Financial Group. Cory is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Principal intellectual property portfolio, enforcement docket, and risk mitigation across the insurance, retirement, and asset management businesses. He also provides intellectual property support to local, in-house legal experts in APAC, Europe, South America, and Central America. In addition to his legal role, Cory served as AVP – Innovation Strategy on the Principal Corporate Strategy and Development team for three years.
Prior to joining Principal, Cory worked in private practice at firms in Des Moines and Dallas and served as Federal Law Clerk to the Judge John Jarvey (Ret.) in the Southern District of Iowa. Cory graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Biochemistry and earned his J.D. (summa cum laude) from Drake University Law School. Cory is married to an amazing woman, has two dogs, a son and a daughter (both under 2 years old), and he recently relocated to the Waveland Park neighborhood – but don’t worry, he is still happy and mostly sane.
